The extraordinary story of a skinny lad from Manchester who rose to become British Champion bodybuilder. And there the clichés end in this gritty, humorous and brutally honest tale which strips away the dream tan and any illusion of a glamorous lifestyle to lay bare the sport as never before. Jim Moore writes about the all-too-often taboo subjects of performance-enhancing drugs, the debilitating illnesses and mental health problems which blight the scene. He takes the reader behind the stage curtain to reveal the murky depths to which some – including himself – will plunge in search of success. Moore reveals the shocking contradictions and dangers inherent in the bread-and-butter running of the sport, matched only by the intensity and insanity of his own dedication. It was this never-say-die approach which eventually saw Moore crowned a national champion five times; but also an attitude which ultimately almost caused his death.
Bodybuilders Never Die They Simply Lose Their Pump eBook Jim Moore
Jim's book is unpretentious, honest, and filled with ups and downs. You'll find yourself at times pulled to the brink of tears, and at others laughing out loud. There were so many parts of this book I want to quote. Having seen Jim's discussions online for the past few years I had only the slightest inkling of what he had done, accomplished, or been through. Now, after reading this book all I can think is, "wow"!His honesty in the difficulties of his sport (both with mental and physical pain as well as the conundrum of steroid use) is immensely appreciated. It shines such an important light on competing in general and I feel that many older athletes will relate, and many younger athletes will be inspired. His ability to conquer life changing events that would leave others crumpled is a testament to his winning competitive nature, as well as an inspiration. His acceptance of an eventual retirement and reflection of his youth and competitive days should leave anyone else filled with a desire to make the most of life and strike while the iron is hot! GREAT BOOK JIM!

Bodybuilders Never Die They Simply Lose Their Pump eBook Jim Moore Reviews
From start to finish a marvelous read, I couldn't wait to pick it up again for the next read, as long as I could keep my eyes open that is! This book does indeed take you through a roller coaster of emotions from shear elation to total despair of which I know only too well being heavily involved in competitive bodybuilding myself for over 20 years at National and International level. No holds bar, it's a gritty true portrait of this weird and wonderful sport that very few can follow through to the point of stepping on to that glorious stage. Whilst progressing through the book I felt like I got to know the author, share in his joy and pain, sadness too, at being forced to retire from something he loves so much and which had became such a huge part of his life. The physical and mental battles that competitive bodybuilders endure in their journey preparing months, even years ahead of a competition are portrayed perfectly as are the same battles afterward when it's all over. So well done Jim on a truly inspirational wonderful read, loved it!
I've read better books than this
Jim Moore does an absolutely fantastic job of telling his story. This book was riveting and takes the reader on a roller coaster that only a true story can do. I feel I have truly gotten to know the author because of his honest ability to share this part of his life. I strongly recommend this book to everyone.
A fun read.
Good book. Nice to hear truth instead of fiction when it comes to bodybuilding. I'm a big fan of the time and effort these guys put into being the best in their sport. Lots of sacrifice to say the least.
Love the book ! A rollercoaster ride thru the life of a bodybuilder. Very well written, kept my interest throughout !
Always wanted to know what really went on in for preparing for actual bodybuilding contests without getting around the real players. You just can't go up and ask these kinds of questions to an actual bodybuilder because it takes a book to actually bring out all these details. And to find someone who is actually truthful about everything and I mean everything I think is rare. I think it takes a man to lay all of this out on the table for all to see, pick apart, laugh at, say how stupid this was and yet he explained all things in great detail, right or wrong. Was he right or wrong? Right for him but not for me. As much as I like bodybuilding and how it makes you feel I couldn't do what he did. But I got out of this book the truth, the mindset of some of the body builders and exactly what they are willing to sacrifice and go thru to achieve their dream. And I think the author summed up his thoughts and feeling at the end of the book beautifully. Many different words and different terminology are used too because he's British but it comes thru perfectly understandable. Actually wouldn't want anyone to go thru this ever in anyone's life. Would recommend the book in hopes to stop others from doing it. GMF
